Welcome everyone. This marks the first (and hopefully not last) post on this forum, about which I'm greatly optimistic.
First and foremost, let me explain exactly what this forum is for. The main purpose of this site is a place for programmers - new to intermediate in skill level - to learn and share as they advance their knowledge in the programming world.
However, don't let that sentence drive you away if you're a skilled programmer. Advice and tips from professionals will be incredibly valuable and people with a higher skill level will be a valuable asset to the forum.
You might be asking, "Why make a new forum?", and you have a valid question; there are already countless programming forums. The reason I've created Programming for N00bs is to create a more relaxed environment to encourage learning and social interaction rather than anal moderation and correction.
That being said, as the sole Admin of this site, I will still have to enforce the basics, such as no 1337 5p33k, profanity, necro-posting, et cetera. However, I want us as members to focus less on high-and-mighty correction and more on writing ass-kicking code. Unfortunately, I'm an incurable grammar nazi and may come off as an ass sometimes due to corrections of "your" vs "you're" without fail.
Take a look at the rules list below and be sure to stick to them to avoid the warning bar, and enjoy the site. I think I've made my point. Welcome!
1. No profanity, vulgarity, racism, sexually explicit, illegal, or threatening/violent talk.
2. Avoid religious or political discussion.
3. Keep grammar and spelling decent. I'm not asking you to be perfect, but no texting language or complete disregard for your shift key. Bonus points for punctuation. Whether or not your English is up to par is solely at my discretion, no whining.
4. Learn to hate the warning bar. This rates you from 0-100. You want to stay at 0. Everyone can see if I or another staff member increase your warning levels and we will laugh heartily at your misfortune.
5. Recruit members and help our community grow! When more people show up, staff slots will be given based on seniority and contribution quality, as determined by me. Not so much a rule as a suggestion.
6. Spammers will be killed and eaten.
Update:
-Please direct any complaints in regards to another member or myself to a personal message to Admin. It would be better not to post them publicly. Also remember to be respectful about it.
Added note: I'll switch from the warning system to the more common reputation system when our member base increases. For now it's the bar of shame.
The Ranking System
In response to queries about the ranking system, the shiny colored stars, etc., this should explain it:
Level 10 is called staff because if you make it that far you're an automatic mod.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, shoot me a PM.
